Central member of UCPN-Maoist Bamdev Chhetri (Ghimire) was born on April 11, 1958 in Purkot Daha VDC-9, Daduwa of Gulmi. He is the son of Narishwar Ghimire and Pabitra Ghimire. He is contesting in the CA Election 2013 from Gulmi-3.

He began his political career through communist movement in 1975 from CPN (Fourth Convention) and took the party membership two years later. With Master's Degrees in Political Scienceand Economics, Chhetri began his involvement in student and migrant Nepali workers' organizations while he was in India for studies and work. He became vice-president and general secretary of the All India Nepali Student Association and continued working for the party in India. After the then CPN (Maoist) launched the armed revolution, he worked for it from India. He was the coordinator of the International Solidarity Forum, the organization formed to support the armed revolution in Nepal. He became the central member of CPN (Maoist) in 2001 but was jailed for 18 months after his arrest in India in 2003. India handed him over to Nepal the very next day he was arrested.

With the start of the peace process, Chhetri served as Member of Parliament in the Interim Legislature and was also appointed as chairman of Agricultural Development Bank. He is considered close to Dr. Baburam Bhattarai in the party.
