Chakra Bahadur Thakuri was born on July 19, 1957 in Jorpati-6, Kathmandu. Son of Khadga Singh and Indra Kumari, Thakuri has three daughters and two sons. He holds a Bachelor's Degree from Humanities Faculty. He is contesting from Kathmandu-3 in the CA Election 2013 representing Nepali Congress.

Thakuri began his political career in 1976. He was elected from Kathmandu-3 in the CA Election 2008 with 12,966 votes. He defeated Rameshwar Phunyal (CPN-UML) who received 9,549 votes. Manu Humagain of CPN (Maoist) came third with 7, 371 votes.

Thakuri was NC's Mid-zone Regional chairman.
