Dhyan Gobinda Ranjit was born on May 30, 1944 in Kathmandu. He is the son of Narayan and Mohan Devi Ranjit. He holds a Master's Degree from the Humanities Faculty and also has a Bachelor's Degree in Law. He is contesting from Kathmandu-9 in the CA Election 2013 representing Nepali Congress.

He joined politics in 1958 and was arrested during protests against the 'coup' of then King Mahendra in 1960. He was arrested dozens of times and released after that.

He won the CA Election in 2008 from Kathmandu-9 with 12,501 votes. His closest opponent UCPN-Maoist's Maila Lama received 12,292 votes. CPN-UML's Krishna Gopal Shrestha came third with 12,194 votes. He served as member of the National Interest Preservation Committee of the dissolved CA.

He has been a central member and Kathmandu District chairman of the NC.

He has two sons and two daughters.
