Active for over three decades in linguistic and political movements, Surja Narayan Shrestha was born on November 29, 1969 in Suntole-1 of Sankhu, Kathmandu. He is the son of Asha Narayan Shrestha and Dhanmaya Shrestha. He has passed Proficiency Certificate Level from Management Faculty from Tribhuvan University. He is contesting from Kathmandu-2 in the CA Election 2013 representing Federal Socialist Party, Nepal.
In politics since he passed SLC in 1986, Shrestha is active in progressive communist movement and social service. His guru Girija Prasad Joshi, the Mahakavi of Nepalbhasa literature, was his inspiration that led him to linguistic and leftist movements. He joined CPN-UML's student wing ANNFSU in 1986. Later he won the election for the UML's Kathmandu Region No. 1 area secretary in 2003 and was with the UML's Kathmandu Regional Committee until he left the party.
Shrestha, along with the group of progressive ideologists, left the UML on October 4, 2012 and is now with FSP. He had formed Progressive Literature Society in his hometown Sankhu in early 80s during his school days. He also organized many literary programs at his own initiatives. He played an important role in organizing the special program to commemorate the 75th birth anniversary of his Guru Girija Prasad Joshi.
He is the incumbent president of the Lions Club of Sankhu and is associated with Sankhu Jaycees. He was the founder member of Shankharapur Red Cross Society.
He has one son and one daughter.

People walk for 3-4 hours to vote. The leaders, however, use helicopter to cover a distance of even just an hour's walking distance. Why does the EC not see this?
